Of white briefs, wore crew

Length, solid white, socks,


Chose full cut, switched to

Solid white or blue

Boxers when older,

Suspended like plums.



Boys spread out on clean,

Bathroom floor, turned to

Face walls, bent over,

Untied their shoes, stood.


Unbuttoned dress shirts

Which they draped on shoes,

Followed by t-shirts,

Grabbed gym shirts off floor.


Unbuckled, unzipped

Their pants, let them fall,

Pulled on their gym shorts,

Stepped into sneakers.



Ed had two sons in

High school, year apart,

Commuted to work,

Back late, wife deceased.


Gave them free run of

House lower level,

Bedrooms, bathroom, den,

Side door to outside.


Encouraged his boys 

To be men, play sports,

Proud of their bodies

At paired physicals.



Tom and Jim, not close

Friends- bored- took a dare:

Round of strip poker

While parents away.


Sat opposite, cards

Shuffled, laid face-down,

Cards taken up, played,

Nonchalantly watched.


Shoe, sock, shoe, sock, shirt,

T-shirt, belt, blue jeans...

Tom with, Jim without,
